Absurditrees

Taking inspiration from nature’s durability, I enjoy capturing urban trees, both striking and unusual. Around our cities and towns trees often take on strange shapes, growing under power lines or overhanging busy roads. Trees which are tickled by large trucks form straight ‘fringes’.

In 2012 and 2013 I developed a series of oil paintings titled ‘Absurditrees’, highlighting the absurd nature of this urban topiary.

Some of these cropped trees may not be the grandest of their kind, but they are still wonderful living things which I felt needed honouring.   - Kelly Southee Artist
